Listening without fixing
Tom explores why sometimes just listening to someone can be more powerful than trying to offer advice.

Sometimes, they don’t need an answer – they just need to be heard. As coaches, we often want to solve problems right away. But sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is just listen.

I’ve had players open up about frustrations, fears or just a bad day. I’ve learned not to rush in with advice or correction in those moments. Instead, I pause. I listen. I show them they matter by simply being present.

Inclusive coaching isn’t always about having the right words – it’s about creating the right space. When someone feels truly heard, they’re more likely to trust, to engage and to thrive.
