One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in inclusive coaching is this: people can’t be brave until they feel like they belong.
Belonging gives players the confidence to try, to trust and to be themselves. When someone knows they’re seen, valued and safe, they’re more willing to take risks and push through challenges.
So before we ask for effort or courage, we need to create that sense of safety – by learning names, showing up consistently and celebrating small wins. Bravery doesn’t come from pressure. It grows from trust – and trust begins with belonging.
